LAHORE: Provincial Agriculture Minister Hussain Jahanian Gardezi said market gardening is an important need of the hour for good health and a clean environment.

He was addressing an awareness seminar on “Kitchen Gardening” at the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences of the University of Punjab. The Dean of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, Professor Dr Muhammad Saleem Haider, Dr Mateen Sarwar, Dr Tariq, CEO of Green Circle Pakistan Sajid Iqbal, faculty members and a large number of students attended the ‘event.

In his address, Hussain Jahanian Gardezi said that students should play their role in raising awareness in the vegetable garden to obtain healthy vegetables on a low budget. He said the agricultural sector had been ignored in the past and farmers were facing difficulties. The measures taken by the current government have improved the economic situation of farmers, he added. He said the price of DAP is determined based on the international market and the grinding season will start on time. He said that the tea leaves used can also be used as a fertilizer in vegetable garden gardening.

Prof. Muhammad Saleem Haider said market gardening is a simple and easy way to get fresh vegetables. He said it was becoming difficult to get fresh vegetables due to the dirty water in most places in urban areas. He said the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences will continue to play its role in improving the international ranking of the University of Punjab. On this occasion, the students also set up awareness stands in the vegetable garden.
