Summer maintenance tips for your outdoor herb garden
Summer maintenance tips for your herb garden. It happens on this land of ours.
When you grow herbs in the summer and grow them outdoors, they will require a bit more care. Many herbs have drastically different needs and requirements, especially when it comes to temperature.
When a heat wave looms, pay close attention to your watering schedule. Unless the grass is drought tolerant, herbs need a lot of moisture.
It is also important to stay on top of the crop, which improves air circulation, which can prevent fungal diseases that attack when it is hot and muggy.
Plants that don’t need full sun may need extra protection during the heat of the day. This could mean moving the potted plants to a more shaded area or putting shade plants on top of the plants that protect them when the sun is strongest.
Also stay aware of bolting, which is triggered by hot weather.
Don’t forget the roots! Put plenty of mulch around the base of your plants to keep the roots cool and retain moisture.
