SM Aura Premiere houses the first herb garden in a shopping center

MANILA, Philippines – Atop the Skypark of SM Aura Premier is the new neighborhood staple for fresh herbs, microgreens, houseplants and other plants and flora.

In partnership with Tulay Lingap ni Padre Pio, the shopping center opens the first fully operational herb garden located inside a shopping center that not only promotes a green environment in a bustling city, but also supports the means of livelihood of rural communities.

Called the “Green Boxes,” the Herb Garden is a sustainable greenhouse that will serve the community of Taguig and its neighboring towns. Offering weekend shopping mall-enthusiasts workshops on growing and caring for plants, the garden aims to inspire children and adults to care for and appreciate nature.

Built and managed by Tulay Lingap ni Padre Pio, all proceeds from Boxes of Greens will go towards building schools, planting trees, disaster relief and developing food clinics and medical services for the underprivileged. The graduates of Kabalikat sa Kabuhayan – academics from the SM Foundation – will also benefit from the income from the garden, which will lead the daily activities of Boxes of Greens.

Boxes of Greens is the first step in SM Aura Premier’s Lush initiative: a green movement that raises environmental awareness and inspires change by becoming the first mall in the country to initiate a zero waste culture.

SM Aura Premier is the first shopping center to receive LEED gold certification by meeting international standards for indoor air quality, thermal comfort and energy and water efficiency. In the coming months, it will further strengthen its cash waste recycling market every first Friday and Saturday of the month, and launch programs on zero waste management, eco-bricks among others.

Boxes of Greens is located at the Skypark, on the fifth level of SM Aura Premier, and will be open during shopping center hours.
