Market Garden Brewery has expanded its distribution starting November 4 to include Toledo and the Northwestern Ohio area.
The expansion marks the first new distribution market for the Cleveland Brewery since it began shipping beers to Columbus in January 2017.
It is teaming up with NWO Beverage for its latest expansion.
The company now distributes throughout most of Ohio, with the exception of the Dayton / Greater Cincinnati / Southwest Ohio area – although those markets may be added later, said co-founder Mike Foran. He stressed that there was no rush to bring new markets online and that the focus remained on gaining market share in established areas of Ohio.
“I think the goal has always been to go a mile deep instead of an inch deep,” said Foran, adding, “Our growth has been tremendous in Cleveland and Columbus. My goal for the organization has always been to make sure we supply beer and attention to these markets first and foremost before expanding to the following markets. “
This first week’s rollout in the Toledo market includes Citramax IPA, the seasonal Festivus Holiday Ale (which is made by Andy Tveekrem, the former master brewer of Great Lakes Brewing Co. who crafted the first Christmas Ale recipe of the ‘company) and Prosperity Wheat – the No. 1 of the Style 1-selling brewery, which won a gold medal at the Great American Beer Festival 2019 in the South German-Style Hefeweizen category (you can find the list of GABF winners here).
Foran said the company is on track to produce 8,000 barrels in 2019. This represents a 20% increase in annual production and six times what was produced in 2015. This increase was made possible by some additional construction in his brewery. Foran said the plan is to add a few more fermentation tanks in 2020, which will also increase capacity.
Market Garden opened its bar / brewery in Ohio City in 2011.
