Home gardening and indoor plant start-up in Pune Ugaoo, a market leader and innovator in the fast growing home gardening segment has raised INR 15 crore in its pre-series funding round. The cycle was led by DSG Consumer Partners and RPG Ventures.

Founded in 2015, by Siddhant Bhalinge, a landscape architect at California State Polytechnic University, United States, the start-up has seen steady growth of 120% year-over-year. Siddhant, who grew out of a family-owned seed and farming business, has a wealth of experience and vision in the field of plants, vegetable patch and plant care.

The company offers a range of products including live houseplants, planters, vegetable seeds and plant care products on its website as well as in markets such as Amazon, Flipkart, and more. The start-up has also built two experience stores in Pune. which aims to inspire people to bring nature into their homes and help with aesthetic set-up for better mental health and an ambitious quality of life.

Ugaoo’s the plants are cultivated in-house, in its state-of-the-art greenhouses, under the watchful eyes of horticultural experts to ensure customer satisfaction which ensures complete quality control from planting to shipment.

Regarding funding, Siddhant Bhalinge, Founder of, Ugaoo noted “The plant and home gardening industry is expected to grow at a CAGR of 50% and reach a market size of $ 4 billion by 2025 in India, thus holding great potential for growth. We plan to use the funds to expand our regional presence with hubs and garden centers in Bangalore, Delhi and Kolkata. Over the past six years, Ugaoo has fulfilled over a million orders and we aim to produce at least 500,000 plants per month by the end of next year. “

One of the biggest challenges in selling plants online is making sure that the plant is not damaged in transit and that the plant stays fresh when it reaches the customer. We have managed to solve this problem by using innovative soil mixes filled with jelly and reusable sturdy packaging that can withstand a payload of 50 kg and 8-10 days of transport from the nursery to the destination.Siddhant added.
